Overview
There were 3 missions this week by RAF Wickenby aircraft – to the Zuffenhausen, near Stuttgart, to attack the Hirth aero-engine factory, minelaying in the Kattegat and to the naval port of Ludwigshafen. No aircraft or crews were lost.
The attack on Stuttgart was the last of the war – it had been attacked 53 times and nearly 68% of the city was destroyed and 4500 people were killed, however, this was one of the less severe results due to the city being spread out in a series of deep valleys, which made it difficult to mark for the Pathfinders.
