Overview
As the Allies continued to advance towards Germany, Bomber Command maintained attacks on German targets ahead of the ground forces. This week, Wickenby aircraft attacked Scholven, Osterfeld and Nuremberg, with one aircraft being lost, 3 aircrew killed and 2 slightly wounded.
The attack on Nuremberg was particularly successful and has been described as a “near perfect example of area bombing”. The MAN and Siemens factories and the railway yards were extensively damaged.
Also of note in recent weeks are reports of air combat with jet propelled aircraft.
